Quick decision
Quick decision
What to choose
Choose airport bus 6015 or 6701 when one of its named Myeongdong stops is a good match for your stay and avoiding a rail transfer matters. Choose AREX when you prefer a rail timetable and can transfer at Seoul Station for Subway Line 4 or arrange the final local leg yourself. Choose a standard taxi when a direct private ride matters enough to accept an unknown metered total and possible night surcharge.
There is no universal winner
There is no universal winner. A direct bus can reduce transfers but remains exposed to road conditions. AREX gives a scheduled rail segment, but the Myeongdong leg is separate. A taxi removes the transfer but is not represented by the KRW 4,800 base fare alone.
Compare the options on a declared basis
The AREX stored-value fares in the table are the official Seoul Station to airport fares. They are not a through-fare to Myeongdong. Bus road time and taxi road time are not compared with train running time because the official sources do not provide the same door-to-door basis.
When rail makes sense
AREX is the clearest choice when a scheduled rail segment matters and you are comfortable changing at Seoul Station. The All-stop train serves both terminals and Seoul Station, while the Express runs directly between the airport terminals and Seoul Station with reserved seating.
From Seoul Station, Myeongdong requires a separate onward leg. The official AREX topology identifies Seoul Station as a transfer point for Subway Line 4, but this guide does not invent a combined fare, platform walk, or door-to-door duration. Allow time to navigate the station with luggage.
When a direct airport bus makes sense
Route 6015 explicitly serves the Myeongdong corridor, including Namdaemun Market, central Myeongdong hotel stops, and the Myeong-dong Station area. Route 6701 also lists a Myeongdong stop on its City Hall and Gwanghwamun route. Check the stop name against the address of your stay rather than choosing only by the word Myeongdong.
Airport Limousine's published baggage contract allows up to two bags per ticket, including carry-on baggage, when each bag is 20 kg or less and has total dimensions under 160 cm. That rule belongs to Airport Limousine services such as 6015. It is not silently extended to AREX or a different bus operator.
When a taxi makes sense
A standard taxi offers a direct vehicle from either terminal. Incheon Airport lists Seoul-bound standard taxi pickup areas at 5C, 6C, and 6D in T1 and 7C in T2. Use the designated stand and provide the exact accommodation address.
The airport's KRW 4,800 value is the standard Seoul meter base fare. It is not the total price from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong. Seoul taxi night surcharges are listed as 20 percent from 22:00 to 23:00, 40 percent from 23:00 to 02:00, and 20 percent from 02:00 to 04:00.
Check the terminal and exact stop
Schedules differ by terminal because buses and trains commonly serve T2 before T1 toward Seoul. Verify your terminal, then check the operator page again on the day of travel. A published timetable does not prove a live departure, available seat, or unchanged stop during a road closure.
Decision limits
Limitations
- This guide does not claim a fastest door-to-door option, a taxi total, a combined rail and subway fare, or a guaranteed bus travel time. Bus and taxi travel depend on traffic. Static schedules do not establish live operation. Accommodation walking distance and station-platform burden are not measured.
